Our journey began in the vibrant 1970s when the visionary Frank Ward Sr., armed with nothing but two humble garbage trucks and a vision, took a leap of faith. He acquired D & D Disposal, not just as a business venture, but as a mission to discover value within discarded resources. Frank Sr. had a bold theory: to minimize waste's impact on our planet by reducing the items that found their way into landfills all while maximizing potential in waste materials.
As the 1990s dawned, our passion for change knew no bounds. We expanded our footprint beyond the Illinois horizon, spreading our wings to Florida, Indiana, and Tennessee. In the heart of Florida, our Recycling Services began to flourish and gain momentum. Contracts flowed in, and our family-run enterprise blossomed into a thriving force, employing over 1,000 dedicated individuals and operating a fleet of more than 700 trucks. Pinellas County Schools has recycled newsprint and mixed paper with Recycling Services (formerly S/P Recycling) since 1998. Recycling Service employees are courteous and professional and their services meet or exceed our expectations. We recently had a successful book recycling program with RSF at the University’s Library, where we recycled 3.87 tons of books. RSF is a strategic recycling partner with UT, well positioned to handle University’s recycling goals, for a more Sustainable UT. Recycling Services of Florida has been an excellent business partner for several years. The process started with a hand shake and turned into a long term business relationship. They have stood by every commitment made and are always there to support our needs. Equipment requires maintenance and/or repairs over time and in a high volume automated DC being without a baler can stop operations. They have always risen to the occasion and immediately rectified any mechanical challenges and on more than one occurrence delivered baler wire that we failed to order timely.
